Street Foods Of Streets Of Guinayangan
Street food? Pagkaing kalye!

Isaw / Betamax / Proben/ Adidas/ Helmet
I put them all as one item because they are usually sold together and are all parts of chicken. The isaw or grilled chicken intestines are deep-fried in a skewer, served with sweet, sour or spicy sauce. Also referred to as IUD because it resembles an intra-uterine device. Adidas are chicken feet marinated and grilled or cooked adobo style. After the claws and tips of the toes are sliced off, the feet are washed in hot water and tough layer of the skin is scraped off. Helmet or grilled chicken head are tiny heads of chicken grilled to perfection. Filipinos are so creative, they don’t waste any parts of the chicken and make good use of them.

Iskrambol
It is basically shaved ice mixed with powdered skimmed milk, plenty of sugar, food color and flavoring. Using a giant egg beater, mixing is not done in a blender but a tin pail. They also add some chocolate syrup and top it with pinipig before they hand it to you. Usually appears pinkish in color. Just when you’re too thirsty but not in the mood for ice cream, ice scramble is the next best thing.

Sorbetes or Dirty Ice Cream
Sorbetes or dirty ice cream is given that name because of the supposedly unsanitary conditions in the smaller creameries (mostly cottage industries) where it is made compared to the bigger ice cream factories such as SELECTA and MAGNOLIA where stricter quality control are enforced. It is also called dirty because it is peddled on the streets. The dust gets into the ice cream bins when the cart is open. Also, there is a standing joke that mamang sorbetero or the guy who solds the ice cream answers the call of nature and does not wash his hands, and also use the same hand to push the cart, light a cigarette, or blow his nose, then he touches the cone…ewww. Kinda gross if you think about it, huh. But lately, I noticed, they wrap the cones with napkins. I still like my dirty ice cream though, especially the cheese and mango flavors.
